With 2013 right around the corner, many of us are preparing to make our annual New Year’s resolutions. According to an article published in the Journal of Clinical Psychology by The University of Scranton this month, weight loss tops the list of resolutions with 38% of all resolutions falling within this category. Even though weight loss is the most popular resolution, it's not one that is often kept throughout the entire year. According to the study, more than half of us abandon our weight loss resolutions after just six months. With busy schedules and delicious distractions threatening to throw us off course, how do we shed our bad habits and make weight loss a priority?

Luckily, there’s an app for that! When you pair hard work and determination with a little bit of technology, there's nothing that can stop you from achieving your fitness goals this year.In addition to tracking the mileage, duration, distance, speed and calories burned during your workout, the Endomondo Sports Tracker gives audio feedback every mile. Ask your friends to write a short message on Endomondo’s website, and the audio coach will read you their pep talks as you exercise. The Endomondo Sports Tracker is free on WindowsApple and Android devices. Set Goal New Year's Resolution, free on Android, includes expert advice for achieving goals, goal-setting tips, a goal-setting worksheet and goal setting tips for kids, among other features. It even has motivational quotes to inspire you on the days you feel like giving up. Lastly, Resolutions 2013, available on iOS for $1.99, allows users to create a snapshot score of their current lifestyle, define 2013 resolutions, identify good habits needed to be successful and then track successes throughout the year.

The app features motivations/rewards, helpful reminders, daily quotes, personalized inspirations and the opportunity to share achievements through social media. Keeping New Year’s resolutions can be tough. But thanks to these New Year's resolution apps, keeping this year’s resolution to becoming a healthier and happier individual can be as easy as a walk (or run) in the park. What are some of your New Year's resolutions, and how do you plan on staying on-track throughout the year? For more Verizon Wireless news, subscribe via RSS feeds in the right rail.
