NEW YORK - Verizon continues to expand coverage of the 5G service built to be the 21st century infrastructure that will shape the future. Verizon is driving 5G forward by deploying blazing-fast 5G Ultra Wideband service, built using mmWave spectrum, in Akron, OH and Nashville, TN.
Customers in 57 cities can now experience ultra-fast wireless speeds, reaching up to 4Gbps in some places under ideal conditions, allowing them to download and stream movies and TV shows in seconds, videoconference and collaborate remotely in near real time, and take advantage of new immersive customer experiences never before available wirelessly. By the end of 2020, Verizon plans to launch 5G Ultra Wideband in 60 cities.
“Verizon continues its aggressive expansion of 5G Ultra Wideband service, adding to the growing list of cities with access to the amazing new capabilities this technology brings,” said Kyle Malady, Verizon’s chief technology officer. “Customers in these cities are at the forefront of game-changing technology, with access to download speeds and bandwidth that will power the future of consumer, business and government mobile applications.”
Verizon continues to be a leader in the industry with its 5G Ultra Wideband service - the fastest 5G in the world - that was built from the ground up for industrial and commercial use cases. Verizon’s 5G Ultra Wideband boasts throughputs many times faster than 4G and, as the technology matures, it is expected to handle data volumes 100 times larger than today’s capabilities, and ultra-low latencies, which is the time it takes for a signal to make a round trip from point A to point B. Verizon’s use of mmWave spectrum, the backbone of 5G Ultra Wideband, is essential to these revolutionary capabilities. 5G Ultra Wideband is now available to customers in parts of Akron and Nashville.
Customers in Nashville and Akron also have access to Verizon’s 5G Nationwide network which runs on lower spectrum bands than 5G Ultra Wideband, using an advanced technology called Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS). With Verizon’s 5G Nationwide service, when customers move outside Verizon’s 5G Ultra Wideband coverage area, their 5G-enabled devices will remain on 5G technology using lower bands of spectrum. This new technology maximizes customers’ experience on the Verizon network by allowing customers to use Verizon’s full portfolio of current spectrum resources to serve all customers. Customers can use Verizon’s network in a variety of ways — from virtual learning to real-time gaming — that requires the ability to allocate spectrum resources in real time.

Verizon continues to lead the industry with its 5G Ultra Wideband service - the fastest 5G in the world1 - that was built from the ground up for industrial and commercial use cases. It’s important to remember that not all services are created equal. Verizon’s 5G Ultra Wideband boasts throughputs multiple times faster than 4G and, as the technology matures, it is expected to handle data volumes 100 times larger than today’s capabilities, and ultra-low latencies, which is the time it takes for a signal to make a round trip from point A to point B. San Jose is now the 36th US city to have Verizon's 5G Ultra Wideband service. 5G Ultra Wideband availability, in parts of San Jose, coincides with the launch of 5G mobile edge compute with AWS Wavelength at Verizon’s 5G Edge in Boston and the Bay Area. San Jose is the second city in northern California to have Verizon 5G Ultra Wideband service. Verizon 5G Home service has been available to residents in Sacramento since October 2019.
Verizon’s 5G Ultra Wideband network is built for transformative experiences that can improve how we live, work and play. For example, 5G Ultra Wideband enables ultra-high speeds, ultra-low latency, very high bandwidth, and the potential to connect up to a million devices per kilometer.
5G Ultra Wideband service will be concentrated in parts of Downtown San Jose, Little Saigon, Little Italy, West San Jose, North San Jose in the technology corridor, and South San Jose near landmarks such as Japanese Friendship Garden, Guadalupe River Park, Arena Green East, and outside of the CEFCU Stadium & Excite Ballpark.

Three new cities are now live with Verizon 5G Ultra Wideband service: Little Rock, AR, Kansas City, MO and Cincinnati, OH. These cities join the list of 31 5G Ultra Wideband cities launched in 2019. Verizon’s 5G mobility service is built right and a truly powerful experience that has the potential to significantly impact industries as diverse as public safety, health care, retail and sports including this week’s big game.

Cincinnati

If you live, work, or visit Cleveland or Columbus, Ohio or Hampton Roads, Virginia you can now access Verizon’s 5G Ultra Wideband network and experience 5G built right on any of the seven 5G mobility devices available. Verizon’s 5G mobility service is now available in 31 US cities.
“We said we would lead in 5G and we are,” said Kyle Malady, Chief Technology Officer at Verizon. “We have turned on 5G Ultra Wideband mobility service in 31 cities, 15 NFL stadiums, and four indoor arenas. And this is just the beginning.”
Service and Coverage Area Details
In Hampton Roads, 5G Ultra Wideband service is initially available in parts of the Virginia Beach Oceanfront, Downtown Norfolk, Newport News, Old Dominion University, Hampton, Chesapeake, and near landmarks, such as: The Boardwalk, Virginia Beach Hilltop Shopping Center, Scope Coliseum, S.B. Ballard Stadium, Crossways Shopping Center, Peninsula Town Center and Hampton Coliseum.
“It’s exciting to see 5G launch in the 757, and the race is on to expand it across Virginia,” said Gov. Ralph S. Northam, referring to the Hampton Roads region. “This technology will propel the industries that drive coastal Virginia—the military, advanced manufacturing, logistics, higher education, health care, tourism, and more. We can’t wait to see new opportunities unfold for workers and innovators.”
In Columbus, 5G Ultra Wideband service is live in Downtown, The Ohio State University, Italian Village, Easton, Polaris, Lewis Center and is available around landmarks, such as: OSU College of Engineering, OSU College of Agriculture, OSU Wexner Medical Center, Easton Town Center, and Polaris Town Center. Additionally, travelers passing through John Glenn Columbus International Airport will be able to access Verizon 5G Ultra Wideband service in parts of the airport’s main ticketing area. This is the first US airport with live, commercially available 5G Ultra Wideband service.

Customers in Cleveland will find 5G Ultra Wideband service in parts of Downtown, Clark-Fulton, West Boulevard and near landmarks, such as: Progressive Field and the Great Lakes Science Center. Fans attending games at the NFL stadium in Cleveland will also be able to access service in part of the lower seating area, making it the 15th NFL stadium with Verizon 5G Ultra Wideband mobility service. Cleveland is also home to the first 5G Verizon Innovative Learning classrooms. Verizon 5G Ultra Wideband service is available at E-Prep Cliffs and Citizens Leadership Academy, both Breakthrough Schools.

December 20, 2019 Update
In April of 2019, the first two cities in the world went live with Verizon’s 5G mobility network and today that number has grown to 28. The latest cities to get Verizon 5G include Charlotte and Greensboro, North Carolina; Grand Rapids, Michigan; Miami, Florida; Salt Lake City, Utah and Spokane, Washington. Verizon’s 5G Ultra Wideband mobility service is accessible on seven devices, the most 5G devices available on any 5G network.
“We’re building our 5G Ultra Wideband network right to support the type of transformative breakthroughs people imagine when they think of 5G,” said Kyle Malady, Verizon’s chief technology officer. “Our customers, local leaders and government officials recognize how super-fast downloads speed and low latency can change how they live, work and play. Miami
In Miami 5G Ultra Wideband service will be available in parts of Downtown Miami along Biscayne Blvd and near landmarks, such as: The Frost Museum, American Airlines Arena, Hard Rock Stadium, the surrounding area of Miami Gardens, and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

5G Ultra Wideband service will be available in parts of Downtown, Chinatown, Del Rey, and Venice around landmarks such as: Grand Park, Los Angeles Convention Center, Union Station, LA Live, Staples Center, and Venice Beach Boardwalk. Detailed coverage maps will be available on December 20, 2019.

That means things like streaming 4K movies with virtually no buffering, video chat with near zero lag and augmented reality that responds in near real-time.

NEW YORK – You can now access Verizon’s 5G Ultra Wideband network in parts of Dallas and Omaha, bringing the total number of Verizon 5G Ultra Wideband mobility service cities to 15. With Verizon’s 5G Ultra Wideband network, you can enjoy near real-time experiences with high throughput, ultra-low latency and massive capacity. That means downloading movies in seconds versus minutes and supporting mobile workforce applications.
“Customers in Dallas and Omaha become the latest to experience the super-fast download speeds delivered by our 5G Ultra Wideband service," said Kyle Malady, Verizon’s chief technology officer. “We’re focused on building 5G right in order to enable unique experiences for our customers.”
