Verizon Celebrates Philadelphia's Inaugural #SmallBizWeek

The Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce and Verizon presented Philadelphia’s inaugural Small Business Week May 13–17, celebrating and recognizing the critical contributions of the region’s more than 150,000 small businesses.

The 2013 Small Business Week featured a series of events that allowed small-business owners to gain insights to better run their business and opportunities to network, including a special workshop, Delivering Exceptional Customer Service, where a panel discussed the best techniques to connect with clients and deliver exceptional customer service; a small business Webinar presented by Verizon, where  Denise Hart, author and executive momentum coach, presented Defining Your Don’t Quit Attitude – For Business Owners; and a keynote event on May 17 in which Wharton School Professor Jonah Berger, author of “Contagious: Why Things Catch On” and one of the world’s foremost experts on what goes viral and why, talked with more than 200 attendees about viral marketing and how products, ideas and behaviors catch on and become popular.

Tim Smith, Verizon region president of consumer and mass business markets for Pennsylvania and Delaware and a member of the chamber’s executive board, delivered the opening remarks at the keynote event.

Noting how important it is to give small business owners the tools they need to grow and prosper, Smith announced at the event plans in the coming months to give three business incubators in the city of Philadelphia Verizon’s fastest FiOS Internet service available  (300 megabits per second) free for six months and challenging them to come up some inventive ways to use the power of broadband to help start-ups and entrepreneurs get their ideas off the ground and turn them into sustainable businesses that create jobs for the region.

“Small businesses are the foundation for our economic success, employing a large number of our region’s workforce, creating jobs, and keeping our local communities thriving, said Smith.  “Verizon is committed to providing the latest innovation to our customers, and this announcement, as well as our sponsorship of Small Business Week, reinforces that commitment.”
