Verizon FiOS1 in New Jersey to Air More Than 30 New Jersey State High School Winter Playoff and Championship Games

NEWARK, N.J. – Fans of New Jersey high school sports will be able to watch the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association state boys and girls Tournament of Champions in basketball, wrestling – and for the first time, the state hockey championships – exclusively on FiOS1 on Verizon’s FiOS TV service.

Through Verizon’s partnership with the Star Ledger/NJ.com, FiOS1 Channel 1 will air more than 30 high school playoff and championship games, starting with boys basketball NJSIAA North 2 Group 4 First Round Union at Elizabeth on March 1 at 7:30 p.m.  Games will air Monday through Sunday throughout March.  All FiOS1 viewers in central and northern New Jersey will have access to the programming.

“Customers need only to tune into Verizon’s FiOS1 to find the best New Jersey high school sports programming,” said Orlando Martinez, FiOS1’s director of local sports programming.  “The playoff and championship games that will air on FiOS1 will provide a great experience for viewers, especially those who follow high school sports.”

Bob Provost, director of marketing for the Star-Ledger, said: “This coverage of not only basketball and wrestling but hockey as well shows how FiOS1 has become the destination for first-class, comprehensive televised coverage of New Jersey’s NJSIAA high school sports championships.”

Steven Timko, executive director, NJSIAA, said, “Rarely do high school sports fans have an opportunity to see some of New Jersey’s top high schools competing in great basketball, wrestling and hockey championship games.  FiOS1 has given high school sports some great exposure, and we’re excited that a wider audience will be able to watch these games.”

The games also will be are available on FiOS TV’s video-on-demand service in the FiOS1 Local Zone folder.
