SIOUX CITY, Iowa — After investing nearly $5 million in the local wireless network, Verizon Wireless today announced that it is the first to offer Sioux City customers the benefits of digital service. The company also announced the launch of its digital service in Sioux Falls, S.D. The availability of digital service in these two cities offers consumers and business customers with a long list of benefits, including Caller ID, superior voice quality, longer battery life and enhanced privacy and security.

"We are excited about delivering all of the benefits of digital service to area residents," said Rich Garwood, president for Verizon Wireless in the Midwest region. "And, by the end of the year, Sioux City and Sioux Fall consumers will also have the ability to access the Internet to send and receive data, such as e-mail, and to customize information delivered directly to the handset."

With both digital and analog service now available, customers with dual-mode (analog/digital) phones can take advantage of the digital service in these areas immediately. At the same time, analog customers can continue to enjoy their existing coverage, and have the option to upgrade to a digital phone to enjoy the features and benefits of digital service.

Customers in Sioux City and Sioux Falls can now join others already taking advantage of Verizon Wireless' SingleRate national calling plans that provide simple, affordable service with no long distance and no roaming charges on calls coast-to-coast. A variety of local digital calling plans are also available.

To celebrate its digital launch in Sioux City, Verizon Wireless held a press conference today at the Sioux City Police Department. Rich Garwood presented a $2,500 check to the Sioux City Police Department to benefit the Council on Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence (CSADV) and its cellular phone program. Ten digital phones also were presented to the Sioux City Police Department.

"Verizon Wireless has a strong commitment to safety and to domestic violence awareness and prevention among the communities we serve," said Garwood. "We're pleased to bring digital service to Sioux City and to put our products, services and resources to work to benefit victims and survivors of domestic violence."
