Phoenix, AZ — Verizon Wireless today announced that it has donated $10,000 to Masqueradin' at the Mansion, a masquerade ball to benefit Fresh Start Women's Foundation, in recognition of National Domestic Violence Awareness month.
The proceeds from the fundraiser will go toward the Fresh Start Women's Resource Center. The resource center will serve as a safe haven for women to achieve emotional and economic independence and will provide mentoring services, financial counseling, legal services, medical treatment, job training and placement for abused, divorced, deserted, destitute or underemployed women.
"Verizon Wireless' donation will help build the Fresh Start Women's Resource Center, a first-of-a-kind center to help women achieve emotional and economic independence," said Amy Videan, auxiliary board member and co-chair for Masqueradin' at the Mansion. "The anticipated cost for building the center is approximately seven million dollars; we anticipate that the masquerade ball will raise almost $100,000, bringing us closer to our goal of finishing the project by 2002."

"We wanted to give Fresh Start a strong launch event to help generate proceeds to build a place where local women who need help can take part in job training or find shelter for the night."
