CLINTON, NJ — Hunterdon County residents will be among the first in the nation to participate in a new wireless phone recycling program launched this week by Bedminster-based Verizon Wireless. Called HopeLineSM and designed to benefit victims of domestic violence, the new community service program will be kicked off this weekend at the company's newest Communications Store at the Walmart Plaza on Route 513 in the Clinton area.

Area residents are asked to bring their no-longer-used wireless phones to the Clinton store beginning November 2 and throughout the month of November. Verizon Wireless will then ship these phones to a national collection center where they will be refurbished, recycled or sold. Proceeds from the collection will be donated to Women's Crisis Services, the county's assistance center for domestic violence victims.

The program is an easy way for local residents to join Verizon Wireless in the prevention of domestic violence. Since 1995, the company has donated or recycled more than 45,000 phones in the New York Metro area.

In addition to the HopeLine program, grand opening festivities for the company's Clinton store will include a ribbon cutting ceremony and a special guest appearance by NY Giant Kenny Holmes on Saturday, November 3, from 2:30-4:30 p.m.

The Clinton store is one of 12 new retail locations Verizon Wireless plans to open this year in the New York Metro area to make shopping for wireless products and services easier and more convenient for customers. Store hours are Monday through Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and Sunday 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
