Bedminster, NJ — Denny Strigl, president and CEO of Verizon Wireless, today made the following statement after the Department of Commerce released its report on Allocating Spectrum for 3G Wireless Services.

"Today's action by the Bush Administration is a welcome step in the long-term goal of making additional spectrum available for wireless consumers. The efforts of NTIA, the FCC, the Department of Defense and the Office of Management and Budget to develop a workable spectrum reallocation plan for the future will ensure that the industry has access to spectrum that is unencumbered and brought to the market in a timeframe that meets the future demands of wireless consumers. The NTIA plan will lead to auctions in the 2004-2005 timeframe. This allocation of future spectrum will help our industry continue to develop new 3G services and to roll them out in a timely fashion.

I am hopeful that the Administration will quickly address Auction 35, and release bidders from any obligation to purchase those licenses that the government has been unable to deliver."
