BEDMINSTER, NJ and VANCOUVER, BC — Verizon Wireless, the nation's largest wireless service provider, and Sierra Wireless were honored this week with Network World's "Best of the Tests" Award. Verizon Wireless' Express NetworkSM, the nation's first enterprise-class high-speed wireless data network with speeds similar to or better than a home PC dial-up connection, and the Sierra Wireless AirCard® 555, won the award in the Cool Tools Hardware category in Network World's special section highlighting the "Best of the Tests". Other companies to receive Network World's top honors include IBM, Cisco and Hewlett-Packard.

The "Best of the Tests" Award chronicles 13 winners with the best technology introduced since November 2001. Products were chosen for their ability to outperform and outfeature the others in rigorous hands-on testing.

"The two - card and network - working in tandem delivered what was promised: the joy of a high speed wireless connection," wrote Keith Shaw, senior reviews editor for Network World. Shaw originally reviewed the AirCard 555 for the March 18, 2002 issue, where he also wrote of the "pure joy of cruising the Internet, watching streaming video and downloading e-mail at speeds that made it feel like you were using your office's T-1 line" while reviewing the service.

"This award reflects the vast investment of resources that we have devoted to our wireless network, including our high-speed wireless data network—the Express Network. We have invested more than $8 billion into our network in the last two years alone and are proud to boast the best and broadest wireless network in the country. The Express Network is now available in more than 800 cities and we're rolling out new cities regularly," said Cindy Patterson, vice president for enterprise data sales for Verizon Wireless. "Our customers appreciate that we carefully thought about our technology migration plan, which also maximizes their wireless investment, and that our data network is as reliable as our voice network. We are honored to be recognized with this prestigious award, and as the service becomes even more popular we look forward to and expect additional positive feedback."

"The AirCard 555 continues to be recognized as an industry leader and we are thrilled by Network World's recognition," said Jason Cohenour, vice president, worldwide sales and marketing. "Sierra Wireless continues to deliver products that feature superior performance and reliability and we are proud to be honored with an award that exemplifies excellence. We view this award as a reflection of our continued success in delivering quality and innovative products to the mobile enterprise."

The AirCard 555 operates on the Verizon Wireless Express Network, which averages speeds of 40-60 kilobits per second (kbps) with peak transmission speeds of up to 144 kpbs.
