BEDMINSTER, NJ — Recognizing the growing demand for Spanish-language services, Verizon Wireless, the nation's largest wireless provider and a leader in mobile data, today announced the launch of its Spanish-language Web site, www.verizonwireless.com/espanol, the only wireless service site offering a complete Spanish-language shopping experience.

The site provides Spanish-speaking customers with online access to Verizon Wireless' award-winning products and services and complements the company's already established list of Spanish-speaking offerings, such as a team of Spanish-speaking customer service representatives at 1-800-2 JOIN IN (1-800-256-4646) and in many Verizon Wireless Communications Stores; and the recent launch of blah!, a Spanish language mobile chat service.

According to the 2000 United States Census, the Hispanic population is the fastest growing minority group in the U.S. More than 12.5 percent of the nation's population is Hispanic, a larger percentage than any other minority. Furthermore, a full 50 percent of the Hispanic population - 11 million people - uses the Internet on a regular basis according to a 2001 study by Pew Internet Research.

VerizonWireless.com/espanol offers customers the ability to research and purchase wireless phones and calling plan options, including America's ChoiceSM, America's ChoiceSM Family SharePlanSM and PREPAY. Customers can also review calling plan maps, find a nearby store, view Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) and get additional information, such as how to use services and how to contact Spanish-speaking customer service representatives.

blah!, the largest wireless "infotainment" provider in Latin America, enables English, Spanish and Portuguese speaking customers of Verizon Wireless to chat and play games one-on-one in a unique virtual community using Verizon Wireless getTXT service. With blah!, Verizon Wireless customers have access to more than 2 million users in the blah! community throughout Latin America. "The nation's Spanish-speaking population is growing, with many preferring to access information in Spanish - whether they speak one or several languages. Our goal is for all customers to feel comfortable about doing business with us, so it's important to make this investment to meet their online needs," said Nicholas Montes, director - multicultural marketing, Verizon Wireless. "Verizon Wireless is already a trusted brand in many communities. The introduction of a Spanish language Web site extends that trust to a population that might have otherwise not been able to use our online capabilities."

"We have long considered the needs of the Hispanic community a priority, and we are proud to launch this site, as the recent and growing customer trend is to turn to the Internet for information -Roslow Research Group found that 55% of Hispanic users that go online are seeking information in Spanish," said Mark Lawson, director of E-business for Verizon Wireless. "We look forward to enhancing the site in the future to further provide information and services to this important market."
