CHICAGO, IL — In response to the growing demand for the company's voice and data products and services, Verizon Wireless, the nation's largest wireless provider with 34.6 million customers, has opened a new store in Chicago at 3620 West Irving Park Road.

"Our customer base is rapidly expanding in Chicago and we're excited to open this new location to better serve residents in the area," said Tracy Nolan, president of Verizon Wireless' Illinois/Wisconsin Region. "With the new store, we can offer customers in the community the very latest wireless communications technology in a modern, well-equipped, customer-friendly environment. Our Chicago sales team will deliver a high level of customer support in an environment where we are able to provide a broad range of equipment and service plans to suit every need, all backed by our Worry Free GuaranteeSM."

Wire-Cutting Ceremony Features Donation, Call to Action to Donate Old Wireless Phones

To mark the grand opening, a "wire-cutting" ceremony will be held on October 24th at 8:30 a.m. at the new Verizon Wireless communications store. The wire-cutting is open to the public and will include a check presentation in the amount of $1,000 to Chicago Abused Women Coalition's Greenhouse Shelter.

The funds will be used toward its domestic violence prevention and victim support programs. During the week of October 20, Verizon Wireless is opening six stores in Illinois and will give away a grand total of $8,000 to local domestic violence agencies at the openings.

Don Miller, Verizon Wireless district manager, will present the check to Olga Becker, Executive Director, Chicago Abused Women Coalition's Greenhouse Shelter. Several prominent members of the Chicago community will also be present at the wire-cutting ceremony, including Alderman Richard F. Mell, State Representative Richard Bradley, Senator Iris Martinez and Dawn D'Amico, Executive Director, Pulaski Elston Business Association.

With the grand opening being held during National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Verizon Wireless is putting out a "Call to Action" to residents of the Chicago area to bring their old wireless phones to the store to donate to Verizon Wireless' HopeLineSM program. Through HopeLine, used wireless handsets, batteries and accessories from any wireless company are collected, refurbished, recycled, and/or sold. Proceeds are donated to non-profit domestic violence advocacy organizations and used to purchase handsets for domestic violence victims, including those throughout Illinois.

Verizon Wireless is giving area residents an added incentive to bring in their phones from October 24 through October 31. For each phone collected at the store during that time, the company will donate an additional $5 to Chicago Abused Women Coalition's Greenhouse Shelter.

"Domestic violence is an epidemic that devastates neighbors, friends and co-workers in all communities — including Chicago," said Miller. "That's why Verizon Wireless focuses on putting wireless products to work to aid both the prevention of domestic violence and the life rebuilding process. We encourage Chicago residents to do the same by donating phones they no longer use to HopeLine. They truly will be providing a lifeline to someone in their community."

In addition to the ceremony, Verizon Wireless will celebrate the new store opening with a special promotional offer: Buy one LG 4400 handset at $129.99, after rebate, and receive another one free.

The new Verizon Wireless communications store will feature a variety of wireless solutions for customers including Picture and TXT Messaging, Push to Talk and Get It NowSM with downloadable ringtones and games. Customers can also access high-speed wireless Internet connections with the Verizon Wireless Express Network.

Frank Paluzzi is the manager of the new store. It will be open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. - 8 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. — 6 p.m.; and Sunday 12 noon - 5 p.m.
