CHICAGO, IL — In response to the growing demand for the company's voice and data products and services, Verizon Wireless has opened a new Communications Store in the Bucktown neighborhood of Chicago at 1652 N. Milwaukee Avenue. Popular Chicago Cubs second baseman Ramon Martinez will help celebrate the grand opening by signing autographs at the store from 4-6 p.m., Thursday, June 3.
"Our customer base is rapidly expanding in Chicago, and we're excited to open this new location to better serve area residents," said Tracy Nolan, president of Verizon Wireless' Illinois/Wisconsin Region. "With the new store, we offer customers in the community the very latest wireless communications technology in a modern, well-equipped, customer-friendly environment. Our Bucktown sales team will deliver a high level of customer support and a broad range of equipment and service plans to suit every need, all backed by our Worry Free GuaranteeSM."
The new store will feature a variety of wireless solutions for customers including Picture and TXT Messaging and Get It Now® with downloadable ringtones and games, and high-speed wireless Internet connections with the Verizon Wireless NationalAccess service.
Wire-Cutting Ceremony Features Donation, Call to Donate Old Cell PhonesTo mark the grand opening, a wire-cutting ceremony will be held at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, June 3, 2004, at the new Verizon Wireless Communications Store. The ceremony is open to the public and will include a check presentation in the amount of $1,000 to the Association House, a community center serving Chicago's greater West Town neighborhoods that provides quality social services, cultural and recreational activities, and opportunities for individual and family development.
Don Miller, district manager for Verizon Wireless, will present the check to Harriet Sadausks, executive director of the Association House.
Several prominent members of the Bucktown community also will also be present at the wire-cutting ceremony, including Cathie Hyland, president of the Bucktown Chamber of Commerce.
Along with the financial contribution, Verizon Wireless employees from the Bucktown store will volunteer at the Association House for 10 hours per month for the remainder of 2004. In addition, Verizon Wireless is putting out a "Call to Action" to residents of the Bucktown neighborhood to bring their old wireless phones to the store to donate to Verizon Wireless' HopeLineSM program. For every phone collected during the month of June, Verizon Wireless will donate an additional $5 to the Association House.
Through its award-winning HopeLine program, Verizon Wireless collects no-longer-used wireless phones and accessories from any wireless service provider. Most of the phones and equipment are refurbished and sold; then the company uses the proceeds to purchase newer wireless phones for domestic violence survivors and to support domestic violence shelters and organizations. The remaining phones are recycled in an environmentally friendly way, preventing the dumping of waste into landfills.
"Domestic violence is an epidemic that devastates neighbors, friends and co-workers in all communities including Bucktown," said Miller. "That's why Verizon Wireless focuses on putting wireless products to work to aid both the prevention of domestic violence and the life-rebuilding process. We encourage Bucktown residents to help by donating phones they no longer use to HopeLine. They truly will be providing a lifeline to someone in their community."
The new store will feature a variety of wireless solutions for customers including Picture and TXT Messaging and Get It Now with downloadable ringtones and games, and high-speed wireless Internet connections with the Verizon Wireless NationalAccess service. Matt Naka is the manager of the new store. Store hours are 9 a.m. 8 p.m., Monday through Friday; 9 a.m. 6 p.m., Saturday; and noon 5 p.m., Sunday.
