MORRISTOWN, NJ — In a continuing effort to provide the best wireless service for local residents and commuters in Hudson County, Verizon Wireless, operator of the nation's most reliable wireless network, has expanded its network with four new cell sites.
As a result of the new cell sites, network coverage and capacity have been improved in the following areas:
- In Jersey City on Grand Street, Montgomery Street and Newark Avenue from Jersey Avenue to Warren Street, and on Grove Street from Grand Street to Third Avenue.
- On Routes 1 and 9 from Griffith Street in Jersey City to 24th Street in Secaucus.
- On the NJ Turnpike extension from Grand Street to Fourth Street, on Grand Street from Fairmount Avenue to Grove Street, and on Montgomery Street from Comelison Avenue to Grove Street.
- In North Bergen on River Road from North Hudson Park into Edgewood, and on Palisade Avenue from Woodcliff Avenue to Park Avenue in Cliffside Park.
New cell sites are part of the company's aggressive multi-billion dollar network investment each year to stay ahead of the growing demand for Verizon Wireless voice and data services. Verizon Wireless invested more than $5.5 billion last year in its nationwide wireless network to handle a growing number of calls and to make available wireless data services such as picture messaging, text messaging, and the new VCAST service which brings TV and other multimedia services to wireless phones over the company's high speed wireless broadband network.
Demand for Verizon Wireless services continued during the fourth quarter last year as the company added a record 1.7 million net new customers. Verizon Wireless now serves 43.8 million customers nationwide.
"Customers choose Verizon Wireless and stay with us because they want wireless service they can depend on," said Charles Hand, president of Verizon Wireless' New York Metro area. "The company's continued investment in its premier wireless network and our strong customer service focus are the drivers behind our industry-leading growth."
The company's investment in its wireless network also is part of Verizon Wireless' commitment to offer customers the most reliable service available in the nation. The company's 'most reliable network' claim is based on network studies performed by real-life test men and test women who inspired the company's national advertising campaign. The engineers conduct more than 300,000 call attempts monthly on Verizon Wireless' and other national wireless carriers' networks while traveling over 100,000 miles of the most frequently traveled roadways nationwide in specially equipped, company-owned quality test vehicles.*
*Test Man Ride-Along ProgramSpecially-equipped Verizon Wireless test vehicles simultaneously test the networks of six wireless providers, using a mobile laptop computer to generate phonically diverse "conversations."
