SPEEDWAY, IN — Racing fans heading to Indiana for this weekend's race can count on the nation's most reliable wireless network. Just in time for the upcoming racing extravaganza on May 29 and the expected crowd of more than 400,000 fans, Verizon Wireless, the nation's leading wireless service provider, has activated a new cell site in Speedway, Indiana, to increase the strength of Verizon Wireless' network signal and call capacity, enabling more customers to use their wireless phones concurrently.

As a result, Verizon Wireless customers will experience even clearer reception while talking on their wireless phones to celebrate their favorite driver taking the lead or the checkered flag being waved. Customers can also use Verizon Wireless data applications to stay connected during the race by taking and sending Picture Messages of the victory lap or sending TXT Messages with lap by lap race details to friends and family not able to attend the race.

"Customers choose Verizon Wireless and stay with us because they know they'll get wireless service they can depend on-whether spending the day watching cars race around a track with thousands of fans, doing errands around town or traveling the country," said Greg Haller, president—Indiana/Kentucky/Michigan Region, Verizon Wireless. "Our company's continued investment in its nationwide wireless network and its focus on strong customer service are the drivers behind our industry-leading growth."

Activation of this new cell site is part of Verizon Wireless' continuous effort to increase capacity and augment the quality of its wireless voice and data network in Indiana and across the nation. Verizon Wireless has regularly invested more than $4 billion nationally each year since its inception — and more than $5 billion last year alone — to expand and upgrade its nationwide wireless network.
