DETROIT, MI — With baseball's mid-season classic right around the corner, Verizon Wireless has fine-tuned its network in this year's host city to handle additional wireless call volume leading up to and including Tuesday's big game. Thousands of fans, sports news media and others on the Verizon Wireless network who are flocking to downtown areas can rest assured that they will be able to talk and TXT to friends and fans back home about the festivities leading up and including the big event.

Verizon Wireless has installed temporary equipment on key cell sites around the city and downtown stadium to boost calling capacity by 30 percent. The installations will enable more Verizon Wireless customers to concurrently make calls, send and receive TXT and Picture Messages, and download games and ring tones.

"A major reason our customers choose Verizon Wireless and stay with us is because we offer the nation's most reliable voice network," said Greg Haller, president—Michigan/Indiana/Kentucky Region, Verizon Wireless. "That is why we make such a commitment to ensure that our network stands up to its excellent reputation — for everyday use and during major events like this."

Additionally, leading up to Tuesday night's game, Verizon Wireless will dispatch its real-life, Michigan-based test man, Rick Thompson, who will drive around downtown testing the company's network to ensure reliability.

Test Man Ride-Along Program

Specially equipped Verizon Wireless test vehicles simultaneously test as many as eight wireless providers, using a computerized program to generate phonically diverse "conversations" as well as data transmissions. Members of the media, who are interested in setting up an interview or ride-along with a member of the Verizon Wireless team of real-life test men and women, can contact Tom Pica at (908) 306-4385 or via email at Thomas.Pica@VerizonWireless.com.
