BOSWELL, PA — With thousands of additional wireless customers expected to use its network during the Rolling Rock Town Fair Concert on August 6, Verizon Wireless has activated a temporary cell site near Jennerstown Speedway to enhance network service for concert-goers. The cell site, known as a COW or Cell on Wheels, is a fully functional, generator-powered mobile cell site that increases wireless capacity in a given area.

The COW will enhance the company's digital network capacity in and around Jennerstown Speedway, enabling more customers to use their wireless phones concurrently. As a result, Verizon Wireless customers will experience fewer dropped calls and clearer reception while talking on their wireless phones, handling data applications (such as TXT and Picture Messaging) or downloading games and ringtones with the company's Get It Now® services.

"During large events such as this concert, local residents and visitors rely heavily on their wireless phones to keep in touch with friends and family," said Roger Tang, president—Ohio/Pennsylvania Region, Verizon Wireless. "Consequently, our network will be handling more call volume. We are increasing capacity so our customers will continue to receive the reliable service they expect and deserve."

The COW will remain operational throughout the Rolling Rock Town Fair event.

This enhancement is part of Verizon Wireless' continuous effort to increase capacity and enhance the quality of its wireless voice and data network in Pennsylvania and across the country. Since its inception in 2000, the company has consistently spent more than $4 billion annually-and more than $5 billion last year-to expand and improve its network nationwide. Approximately $250 million of this investment was spent in 2004 to stay ahead of the growing demand for Verizon Wireless products and services in Pennsylvania.
