BLOOMINGTON, IN — Verizon Wireless has installed three new cell sites in Bloomington that increase coverage and capacity, enabling more customers to use their wireless handsets concurrently to make calls, send and receive TXT and Picture Messages, and download games and ring tones while enjoying clearer reception and fewer dropped calls.
These new cell sites make it possible for Verizon Wireless to stay ahead of its growing customer base and increasing demand for its voice and data services in the following areas:
- Indiana University campus, including Memorial Stadium and Assembly Hall
- Downtown Bloomington
- North side of Bloomington
- Southeast portion of Bloomington
- South College Mall Drive between State Road 46 and Moores Pike, including College Mall Shopping Center
- Sare Road between Moores Pike and Rogers Road
- Moores Pike between South High Street and South Smith Road
"College students are among some of our heaviest users, and IU students are no exception," said Greg Haller, presidentIndiana/Kentucky/Michigan Region, Verizon Wireless. "Between their classes, study sessions, work and social lives, college students maintain very hectic schedules. Many of them find their wireless phones to be the most effective way to be reached by friends and family. We activated these cell sites to ensure that these busy students and all of our customers throughout Bloomington will continue enjoying the reliable service they have come to expect from Verizon Wireless."
Reliable service is fundamental to customer loyalty, and Verizon Wireless boasts the highest customer loyalty in the industry. During the second quarter of 2005, only 1.2 percent of its customers disconnected their service, which is well below the industry average.
"The value we offer our customers is closely tied to our industry-leading customer retention," Haller said. "Wireless consumers today understand that value is not defined by price alone. A major reason our customers choose Verizon Wireless and stay with us is because we offer the nation's most reliable network."
These recent improvements in Bloomington are part of Verizon Wireless' continuous effort to increase capacity and enhance the quality of its wireless voice and data network in Indiana and across the country. Since its inception in 2000, the company has consistently spent more than $4 billion annually-and more than $5 billion last year-to expand and improve its network nationwide. Approximately $103 million of this investment was spent in 2004 to stay ahead of the growing demand for Verizon Wireless products and services in Indiana.
