ALBANY, NY — Verizon Wireless will present Domestic Violence and Rape Crisis Services of Saratoga County and the Mechanicville Area Domestic Violence Program each with a $5,000 grant from the company's HopeLine® Foundation. The grants will be used to fund programs which include crisis intervention and counseling, safety planning and educational outreach. These grants are just two of 13 grant, totaling $35,000, being awarded across Upstate New York to help organizations involved in domestic violence prevention and education introduce new programs, expand existing ones or add facilities to better serve clients.
"One out of every four women is victimized by domestic violence." says Domestic Violence and Rape Crisis Services of Saratoga County Executive Director Maggie Fronk. "We will help survivors of domestic violence increase their financial independence so they can build a future free from violence for themselves and their children."
"Thanks to the Verizon HopeLine Grant, survivors of domestic violence and their children will have the opportunity to receive long-term support which has been unavailable due to limited funds," notes Mechanicville Area Domestic Violence Program Executive Director Megan Collins. "Verizon Wireless' HopeLine funds will help survivors establish stronger independence, better self esteem and marketable skills which contribute to breaking the cycle of domestic violence."
John O'Malley, Public Relations Manager for Verizon Wireless' Upstate New York Region, will present the grants to Fronk and Collins on Monday, October 17th at 3:00 PM. The check presentations will take place at the Clifton Park Verizon Wireless Communications store.
