BOCA RATON, FL — Verizon Wireless reported today that all 56 of the company's retail locations in southwest and southeast Florida struck by Hurricane Wilma have reopened for regular business, with each location offering free local and long-distance calls, battery charging and technical support to residents still suffering in the wake of the storm. Verizon Wireless has a total of 119 retail locations, including kiosks in select Circuit City stores, throughout the entire state.
The company's post-hurricane restoration effort includes the Verizon Wireless store at 1996 North Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale. The building was severely damaged by Wilma, but a temporary yet air-conditioned, full-service tent has been erected on the site to serve local customers until the permanent location is fully reconstructed. Construction crews are working to re-open the store by Thanksgiving.
Store hours at the temporary location currently are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and on Sundays, 12 noon to 5 p.m. Store manager Chris Gambino may be reached at 561-254-0735.
"Our retail stores provide valuable services for residents regardless of which wireless carrier they currently use and we've worked extremely hard to reopen our stores to serve these communities in the wake of Wilma," said Carol Fink, director of retail sales for Verizon Wireless in Florida.
