SOUTHFIELD, MI — Detroit Tigers baseball fans are enjoying clearer reception and fewer lost calls in and around Comerica Park as a result of Verizon Wireless' more than doubling its network capacity.

The company has activated a temporary cell site and upgraded its permanent cell sites that provide network service to Comerica Park and the surrounding vicinity. The enhancements enable more customers to use their wireless handsets concurrently to make calls, send and receive e-mail and TXT, Picture and Video Messages, and download, music, games and ring tones.

The temporary cell site, also known as a COW (Cell on Wheels), is a fully functional mobile cell site that enhances wireless capacity in a given area. Verizon Wireless placed its COW near the intersection of Interstate 75 and John R Street.

"These upgrades mean more customers can keep in touch with friends and family during the Tigers' playoff games and share memorable pictures instantly-all on the nation's most reliable wireless network," said Greg Haller, president—Michigan/Indiana/Kentucky Region, Verizon Wireless.

The network improvements are part of Verizon Wireless' continuous effort to increase coverage and augment the quality of its wireless voice and data network in Michigan and across the country. Verizon Wireless has invested $30 billion in the last six years-$5 billion on average every year since the company was formed-to increase the coverage and capacity of its national network and to add new services. The company has invested $728 million in the past six years in its Michigan network.
