Verizon Wireless And The Green Bay Packers Team Up To Provide A HopeLine For Domestic Violence Victims

GREEN BAY, WI — Verizon Wireless and the Green Bay Packers are teaming up to help curb domestic violence in Wisconsin. Fans attending the Packers game versus the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, Oct. 19 are invited to donate no-longer-used wireless handsets and accessories from any wireless provider to benefit victims of domestic violence through the Verizon Wireless HopeLine® program. Volunteers will be collecting donated phones and equipment at each of the five Lambeau Field entrances from 1 p.m. until game time at 3:15 p.m.

Through its award-winning HopeLine program, Verizon Wireless turns unused wireless phones into support for victims of domestic violence, including those in Wisconsin. Wireless phones, batteries and other accessories are collected at Verizon Wireless Communications Stores nationwide and in special collections throughout the year. The phones are either refurbished for reuse or recycled in an environmentally sound way.

“By donating no-longer-used wireless handsets, fans can help provide hope to victims of domestic violence—an issue affecting more than 30 percent of American women during their lifetime,” said T.J. Fox, president-Wisconsin/Illinois Region, Verizon Wireless.

“Last year’s Packers’ HopeLine drive was our most successful to date,” added Fox. “Packers’ fans have always come through for us in the past, and I know that this year won’t be an exception. Dig through your closets, ask your friends and family members for their used phones and accessories, and donate as many phones as possible to the HopeLine program on October 19.”

Since 2001, HopeLine’s national phone recycling and reuse program has collected more than 5.3 million wireless phones, awarded more than $5.6 million in cash grants to domestic violence organizations throughout the country and by the end of this yearl, will have donated more than 80,000 HopeLine phones with 240 million minutes of airtime to victims, survivors and domestic violence organizations.

Fans unable to attend the Oct. 19, game can still participate in the phone drive by donating their no-longer-used phones at any Verizon Wireless Communications Store at any time. To find the store closest to you, visit
