MORRISTOWN, NJ — Wireless calling, text messaging and surfing the Mobile Web for e-mail and information now are easier and faster for Verizon Wireless customers in Morris County, thanks to the activation of the company's new cell site in New Providence.
The new Morris County cell site improves network coverage and capacity along Route 7 from Baker Avenue to Pitsford Way and also along Central Avenue from Route 622 to River Road.
With the improved network coverage, more customers can use their wireless phones to send and receive e-mail and text, picture and video messages; view high-quality videos; and access turn-by-turn directions, while enjoying clearer reception and fewer dropped calls.
"Reliable networks aren't built overnight," said Pat Devlin, president of the company's New York Metro region. "Today's wireless customers demand so much more than voice service, and this network expansion reflects our ongoing commitment to stay ahead of the curve. New and exciting multimedia devices such as the Motorola Adventure V750, a rugged Push to Talk phone, and the LG Voyager in Titanium featuring V CAST Music with Rhapsody and Visual Voice Mail leverage the high-speeds of the Verizon Wireless 3G network. We will continue to efficiently invest in network enhancements to deliver the most reliable voice, data and multimedia services available."
Verizon Wireless has invested over $2 billion to enhance its New York/New Jersey Metro network and more than $45 billion across the nation since it was formed in 2000. The company's 3G high-speed data network now covers 80 percent of the entire U. S. population the most people of any wireless service provider. In the New York/ New Jersey Metro area, 100 percent of Verizon Wireless' Evolution-Data Optimized (EV-DO) network has been upgraded with faster Revision A (Rev. A) technology. Customers who use the company's flagship business data service, BroadbandAccess, now can interact with Web-based applications and access e-mail, everyday corporate data and the Internet at the highest wireless speeds available.
Demand for Verizon Wireless services continued during the second quarter of 2008 when the company added 1.5 million net new customers and continued its industry-leading customer loyalty rates. Verizon Wireless now serves more than 68.7 million customers nationwide. During the second quarter, the company delivered nearly 70 billion text messages and completed 36.5 million VCAST video and music downloads.
Nationally, Verizon Wireless' real-life test men and women drive 90 specially equipped vehicles nearly 1 million miles each year on Interstate, U.S. and state highways as well as major roads and surface streets in high-population areas, based upon U.S. Census counts, to confirm that voice calls and data connections are successful on the first attempt and stay connected. Vehicles are equipped with computers that automatically make more than 3 million voice call attempts and more than 16 million data tests annually on Verizon Wireless' network and the networks of other carriers.
