NEW YORK, NY — Verizon is ranked No. 4 on Training magazine's latest Top 125 list of companies that have the best training programs for their employees. This marks the 9th consecutive year that Verizon has been recognized for its investment in the training, education and professional development of its employees.

Training magazine annually honors organizations that invest in the learning and development of their employees. The top companies list is based on a study of training budgets and training hours as well as an assessment of a range of factors including financial investment in employee development and how closely such development efforts are linked to business goals and objectives.

In 2009, Verizon invested more than $450 million in the development, education and training of its employees, including $120 million in tuition assistance. Verizon employees also logged more than 10.5 million training hours last year to advance their knowledge of a wide range of topics including privacy and security, and to develop the skills needed to deliver the nation's most advanced broadband networks to customers.

"We depend on a highly skilled workforce to deliver the best networks and customer solutions," said Marc Reed, executive vice president for human resources at Verizon. "Verizon's education and training investments provide personal and professional development for employees and enable them to deliver superior customer experiences." Verizon's application to Training magazine's Top 125 list for 2009 contained data from the company's largest business groups, including Verizon Wireless. The February issue of the publication lists the companies on the Top 125 list and features Verizon executives explaining the company's approach to educating, developing and training employees.

Winners of the Training Top 125 award, now in its 10th year, were honored Monday night (Feb. 1) at the Training Top 125 gala, held during the Training 2010 Conference and Expo in San Diego.
