KANSAS CITY, MO — As part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Verizon Wireless and Rose Brooks Center will hold a special free screening of the documentary “Telling Amy’s Story” on Wednesday, October 20 at Screenland Theatre’s Crown Center location in Kansas City.

The documentary, produced with funding from the Verizon Foundation, tells the story of a Pennsylvania woman who, after enduring years of domestic violence and abuse, was killed by her husband while her young children were nearby. The film examines the story from the perspective of law enforcement officials who worked the case, and from friends and family who were unaware of the seriousness of the situation.

The screening is free and open to the public, although space is limited and reservations are required. To RSVP, contact Sarah Henderson at sarahh@rosebrooks.org. The media is invited to attend.

Brendan Fallis – president, Kansas/Missouri region of Verizon Wireless – will host the event. The event will run from 6:15 – 8:30 p.m. During the event, Rose Brooks Center and Verizon Wireless will be accepting donations of no-longer-used cell phones, chargers and accessories to benefit the HopeLine® from Verizon program.

The presentation will include a short reception before the documentary is shown and a panel discussion by area domestic violence experts after the screening.
