WHAT:
Santa will make a special holiday delivery of backpacks to area children of families affected by domestic violence as part of Verizon Wireless’ annual Packs for Pride initiative. For more than a decade, Verizon Wireless Philadelphia region employees have donated backpacks filled with warm winter hats, scarves, gloves, and socks; personal care items; and toys to children staying at local domestic violence shelters and safe houses for the holidays through the program.

WHO:

  • Representatives from local domestic violence prevention agencies serving the tri-state area, including Women Against Abuse, Pennsylvania’s largest domestic violence prevention agency.
  • Verizon Wireless’ leadership team and employees serving the Philadelphia Region

WHEN:
Friday, December 17 at 11:00 a.m.

WHERE:
Verizon Wireless Store at the Reading Terminal Headhouse, 1115-41 Market Street, Philadelphia

WHY:
It’s estimated that tens of thousands of women each year in Philadelphia are victims of domestic violence, many of whom have children. Most recipients of Packs for Pride have fled their violent home-settings with little to call their own. In addition to providing much-needed personal care items and clothing, the backpacks instill a sense of pride by giving the children something of their own. Verizon Wireless created the program as part of its longstanding commitment, through its HopeLine® program, to support organizations that advocate domestic violence awareness and prevention.
