OSHKOSH, WI — The Verizon Foundation today awarded Christine Anne Domestic Abuse Services, Inc., of Oshkosh a $10,000 grant that will be used to support the mission of the organization – serving individuals and families in Winnebago and Green Lake counties who are struggling with the devastating effects of domestic abuse.

The $10,000 donation was awarded today at a special ceremony at the Verizon Wireless Communications Store at 550 S. Koeller St. in Oshkosh. Joe Trapp, manager of the Oshkosh Verizon Wireless Communications Store, presented the donation to Julie Fevola, executive director, of Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Services, Inc.

Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Services, Inc. is committed to ending the cycle of violence by providing safety, support and advocacy to all abuse victims, as well as cultivating community awareness through collaborative education and prevention programs. The organization has been serving the area since 1984. In 2009, Christine Ann Domestic Abuse Services, Inc. provided more than 11,300 days of care to those in need, served more than 1,200 people across its many service lines and responded to more than 12,000 calls on their 24-hour HelpLine. While national statistics show that one out of every three women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime, these local numbers amplify the very real and pervasive problem domestic violence presents our communities.

“The generous grant from the Verizon Foundation will help us continue to work toward achieving our mission of ending domestic violence and to continue to provide the services that so many rely on,” said Fevola. “The statistics are painful and clear, the residents of Winnebago and Green Lake counties, including the Oshkosh community, need our help and the Verizon Foundation grant helps ensure we are able to continue working toward ending this problem.”

The Verizon Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Verizon Communications, supports the advancement of literacy and K-12 education through its signature program, Thinkfinity.org, and fosters awareness and prevention of domestic violence. In 2009, the Verizon Foundation awarded $67.9 million in grants to nonprofit agencies in the U.S. and abroad. Verizon employees and retirees also matched the charitable donation, resulting in an additional $26.1 million in combined contributions and more than 5 million hours of community service.
