DALLAS, TX — The Verizon Wireless network is ready for the tens of thousands of football fans heading to the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex for Super Bowl XLV Feb. 6. Network technicians have been preparing for the past year to ensure peak performance for hometown customers and visiting fans during the festivities around, and during, the Super Bowl.

In anticipation of significantly elevated usage levels in voice and data call volume in around the Metroplex, Verizon Wireless network teams have enhanced coverage and increased capacity in and around the stadium, at all Super Bowl-related venues, as well as all thoroughfares leading to and from these locations.

The company already has a system in place at the site of Super Bowl XLV with a state-of-the-art distributed antenna system to support large crowds. This system strengthens the already robust Verizon Wireless network in and around the stadium for the anticipated surge in calls, text messages, picture and video messages, Internet connections and other wireless traffic during the biggest game in professional sports in the U.S.

“This is one of largest, if not the largest, events ever held in North Texas,” said Frank Antonacci, region president for Verizon Wireless. “We heavily invest in our network year round to make certain the Verizon Wireless network remains superior, and to give all of our customers – residents or visiting fans – the most access to our advanced services and technologies.”

Verizon Wireless has continued to ramp up its network around Central Texas. Recently, Verizon Wireless launched the world’s first large-scale 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. The initial availability of a 4G LTE wireless network in the Dallas/Fort Worth area is part of the company’s major network launch in 38 major metropolitan areas in 2010. In addition, the company launched 4G LTE in more than 60 commercial airports coast to coast – both the airports within the launch areas, including Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and Dallas Love Field, plus airports in other key cities, such as the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.
