ALBUQUERQUE, NM — Verizon Wireless invested more than $70 million during 2010 in New Mexico and El Paso, Texas to provide new wireless services, network coverage and additional capacity for its customers. The multi-million spend in 2010 brings Verizon Wireless network investment in New Mexico and El Paso to more than $375 million in the last decade, and more than $65 billion nationally.

The 2010 investment funded the continued enhancement of the company’s industry-leading 3G network and readying its 4G LTE network for future expansion.

“Through consistent annual investment and rigorous daily attention from an amazing team of network engineers, we’ve built the largest and most reliable 3G network that will serve our customers for many years to come,” said Brian Danfield, Verizon Wireless region president.

In December, Verizon Wireless launched its 4G LTE (fourth-generation Long Term Evolution) Mobile Broadband network, the fastest and most advanced 4G network in the U.S., in 38 major metropolitan areas and in more than 60 commercial airports.

The company will aggressively continue launching 4G LTE markets over the next 36 months and by the end of 2013 will offer its 4G LTE network across the company’s current 3G network footprint, including New Mexico and El Paso.

Continuing to enhance both the Verizon Wireless 3G and 4G the networks will help ensure that customers receive the most reliable and advanced coverage for making voice calls, sending e-mails, text and picture messages, connecting to the Internet and accessing tens of thousands of applications, games, video, music and many other features from their phone, notebook, netbook, tablet or other wireless device.
