ST. LOUIS, MO — Verizon Wireless, through the Verizon Foundation, has donated $8,000 to Legal Advocates for Abused Women (LAAW), an agency which works to reduce the impact and incidence of relationship violence and sexual assault through education, crisis intervention, counseling and support services.

The donation is in support of LAAW's Court Order of Protection Assistance Project (COPA) responds to the needs of battered women who are poor and underserved by providing extensive services that combine expertise in domestic violence issues and legal remedies and that are free-of-charge. The grant will help fund the COPA program so that it can continue to be a beneficial component of LAAW.

“We are pleased to recognize and support the work of Legal Advocates for Abused Women,” said Brendan Fallis, president of the Kansas/Missouri Region, Verizon Wireless. “Their efforts to end domestic violence in St. Louis have made a tremendous difference in the lives of women experiencing domestic abuse and have raised community awareness of the need for prevention and intervention programs. Verizon Wireless has a long-standing commitment to domestic violence prevention, awareness and advocacy. We are fortunate to be able to work with respected local organizations like Legal Advocates for Abused Women across the United States.”

LAAW is dedicated to helping victims of abuse in times of crisis, working within the legal system, law enforcement and criminal & civil court systems to break the cycle of violence at the earliest possible stage. Ultimately, LAAW provides crisis intervention & support, legal information & advocacy, safety planning, and legal & social service referrals for victims of abuse.
