HILTON HEAD, SC — On March 15, Verizon Wireless customers in more areas of Hilton Head, S.C. can take advantage of Verizon Wireless’ 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network, the largest 4G LTE network in the country. With this expansion, Hardeeville, SC and the areas along I-95 to the Georgia state line will now have access to Verizon’s 4G LTE.

With Verizon’s 4G LTE network, customers can enjoy the best experience in wireless data usage when they stream video, share music and photos, download files, and surf the Web with speeds up to 10 times faster than Verizon’s 3G network. Verizon Wireless initially launched its 4G LTE in Hilton Head on April 21, 2011, and at that time, coverage extended to the Bluffton, Buckwalter, Daufuskie Island, Jasper, Moss Creek, Pritchardville, Rose Hill and Sun City areas.

“For more than 10 months, Hilton Head residents, small businesses and local officials have been able to experience Verizon’s 4G wireless speeds, and with today’s announcement, even more people in more places can use Verizon’s 4G LTE speeds,” said Jerry Fountain, Verizon Wireless president for the Carolinas and Tennessee region.

In South Carolina, Verizon Wireless currently offers its 4G LTE network in Aiken, Charleston, Clemson, Columbia, Greenville, Hilton Head, North Augusta, Rock Hill and Spartanburg. As of March 15, more than 200 million people in 203 markets across the United States will be able to take advantage of 4G LTE on a wide variety of devices, including the new DROID 4 by Motorola and the DROID RAZR™ MAXX™ by Motorola. Details on available devices can be found at www.verizonwireless.com/4GLTE and information on plans and pricing is available at www.verizonwireless.com/plans.

In real-world, fully loaded network environments, 4G LTE customers should experience average data rates of 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) on the downlink and 2 to 5 Mbps on the uplink. When customers travel outside of a 4G LTE coverage area, 4G LTE devices automatically connect to Verizon Wireless’ 3G network, enabling customers to stay connected from coast to coast.
