SOUTHFIELD, MI — Verizon Wireless is boosting its 4G LTE and 3G capacity for customers attending the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix being held at The Raceway at Belle Isle Park June 1-3.

The company has deployed a COW (Cell on Wheels) to boost capacity in the area surrounding the racetrack. A COW is a fully functional, generator-powered mobile cell site that enhances wireless capacity in a specific location—and works especially well in dense areas with large crowds.

Verizon Wireless is further boosting capacity on Belle Isle for race fans by installing a temporary antenna near the race track that feeds off of a permanent cell site in downtown Detroit. Verizon Wireless uses a fiber optic network to deliver voice and data service, thereby increasing wireless capacity in the given area.

The improvements enable more Verizon Wireless customers to concurrently rely on their wireless devices for everything from social networking, Internet browsing and downloading apps and music to exchanging email and text, picture and video messages, watching high-quality videos and making calls.

Each year, Verizon Wireless aggressively invests billions of dollars in its nationwide network to stay ahead of the growing demand for the company’s voice and data services. Since the company was formed in 2000, Verizon Wireless has invested more than $1.8 billion on improvements to its network in Michigan.
