The company also announced that new 4G LTE service will be launched in Iowa in Fort Dodge and the Ottumwa-Oskaloosa area by the end of the year.
On Thursday, Oct. 18, customers who visit or live in Anamosa, Amana, the Amana Colonies and Monticello, as well as along the following highways, will be able to take advantage of expanded 4G LTE coverage:
- Northeast of Cedar Rapids along U.S. Highway 151 to Monticello;
- Southeast of Cedar Rapids along U.S. Highway 151 to Interstate 80;
- West of Cedar Rapids along U.S. Highway 30 to State road 279; and
- West of Iowa City along I-80 to Exit 220.
The Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network offers more coverage than all U.S. wireless providers combined and is the nation’s largest 4G LTE network. Verizon Wireless first launched its 4G LTE network in Cedar Rapids on Nov. 17, 2011. The Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network also is available in Iowa in Ames, Council Bluffs, the greater Des Moines area, Iowa City, the Quad Cities, Sioux City and many rural communities.
“With our 4G LTE network, customers can take advantage of the speeds offered by our 4G LTE devices and the innovative solutions that leverage 4G LTE technology to enhance connectivity,” said Seamus Hyland, president-Great Plains Region, Verizon Wireless. “We will continue aggressively expanding and enhancing our 4G LTE network in Iowa and across the country to provide our customers with the best wireless experience possible.”
In real-world, fully loaded network environments, Verizon Wireless 4G LTE customers should experience average data rates of 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) on the downlink and 2 to 5 Mbps on the uplink. Consumers in 4G LTE areas are able to surf the Web, stream music and video, and stay in touch with family, friends and colleagues, all with speeds up to 10 times faster than 3G.
When customers travel outside of a 4G LTE coverage area, 4G LTE devices automatically connect to Verizon Wireless’ 3G network, enabling customers to stay connected from coast to coast. Verizon Wireless’ 3G network is the most reliable high-speed data network in the country and allows customers in 3G coverage areas who purchase 4G LTE devices today to take advantage of 4G LTE speeds when the faster network becomes available in their area, or when they travel to areas already covered by 4G LTE.
Verizon Wireless customers can choose from the largest selection of 4G LTE devices and solutions to experience the nation’s fastest 4G network. 4G LTE devices range from tablets and mobile hotspots to the latest smartphones and more.
