It’s a familiar scenario – it’s the end of a long day, you’re exhausted and the last thing you want to do is spend a few hours in the kitchen preparing a home-cooked meal.

You’re not alone – according to a recent study by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, consumers across all income groups spent the largest portion of their weekly expenditures for meals away from home on dinner. So whether you’re putting in extra hours at the office while trying to balance some semblance of a social life or tending to family-related commitments, cooking at home often gets pushed to the bottom of our ever-expanding daily to-do lists.

Enter mobile food delivery apps. Seamless, which recently announced plans to merge with GrubHub, is a free delivery and takeout service app that allows you to order food from local restaurants. It features 12,000 restaurants with menus that are updated daily and more than 400,000 ratings and reviews to help steer you in the right direction no matter what you’re craving. It also saves your preferences, including your favorite meals, which saves you time if you tend to order the same thing from the same place.

Another option is Eat24, which allows you to order food delivery from more than 20,000 restaurants in more than 1,000 U.S. cities, and it even sends you coupons on a regular basis. Yelp reviews are integrated within the app so you can see what the local foodies think about a restaurant without leaving the app.

To find out what ingredients are in takeout, try, Foodle. The app provides the nutritional info for more than 8,000 foods and allows you to search for by category and nutrient or you can browse the entire USDA National Nutrient Database.

With the convenience of having take-out menus and delivery options all on your smartphone or tablet, your belly (and your family’s) will be full without lifting a finger in the kitchen.
