Chances are that you have bought or are planning to buy your mom flowers in honor of Mother’s Day. You are not alone. AboutFlowers.com reported that last year more than one third of adults in the U.S. bought flowers or plants as Mother’s Day gifts. And, while the sight and smell of flowers can lift your mom’s spirits, there’s a deeper story behind the flowers you choose. For example, if you’re looking to celebrate mom’s inner and outer beauty, send calla lilies. The name is derived from the Greek word for beautiful and symbolizes magnificence and beauty and comes in a wide variety of colors. Plus, you will be giving a gift that lasts since calla lilies make great houseplants.

For many, moms are our best friends and represent strength. Two flowers that help show your mom that you appreciate her friendship and admire her strength are the acacia and gladiolus. The acacia represents friendship, while the gladiolus symbolizes strength of character. And, if you’re hundreds of miles apart and you can’t physically be there to celebrate, don’t worry, by sending pansies, you let mom know that you’re thinking of her from afar.

Regardless of which flowers you decide to send, you can use your smartphone or tablet to have them delivered in time for Mother’s Day. Both ProFlowers and 1800 Flowers will let you place orders through May 10. You can also opt for sending flowers on Facebook with Verizon Wireless’ Perfect Day Giveaway. Every time you send a flower, your mom will be entered to win a day of pampering. For every flower that is sent on Facebook, Verizon Wireless, through HopeLine, will donate up to $20,000 to domestic violence prevention organizations across the country.
