PAVE (Preventing Violence and Abuse through Education) the Way Project winner Dymond Harding’s musical collaboration with Salvador Santana and his father, Carlos Santana, will be available for a free download starting today at www.pavethewayproject.com.
Harding, 16, earned the opportunity to record with GRAMMY award winner Salvador and his legendary father after competing in the PAVE the Way Project, a national awareness campaign and contest designed to promote healthy relationships and empower youth through pop music.
Harding, wrote the lyrics to “Me, Myself, and I” based on her personal experiences. “You don’t need to be dependent on someone else’s love or someone liking you to be happy,” she says. “The song empowers having a healthy relationship with yourself first, to find out who you are and to live life happy.”
“Me, Myself and I” is one of eight songs from youth artists who took part in the competition that are now available for free download. Musicians ages 13 to 20 contributed original songs to the project as a way to talk with their peers about healthy and unhealthy relationships. The song was co-written by Harding, Salvador Santana and Klaus Derendorf. It features Carlos Santana, a 10-time GRAMMY Award winner, on guitar. Salvador and his father joined the project to reach youth with a positive message using the power of music
“With this song we are spreading a positive message to promote healthy relationships – for youth to validate their inner core and individuality and give those who don’t have a voice the privilege to be heard,” said Salvador Santana.
All eight tracks from the project are also available to Verizon Wireless customers as free ringtones and ringback tones through Verizon Tones in the coming days. A live release performance will be broadcast live on USTREAM on Thursday, June 27 when the Salvador Santana band performs at the Hotel Café in Los Angeles with a special appearance by Dymond Harding.
The PAVE the Way Project is supported by Verizon Wireless, MTE Inc. and Cornerstone, a Minnesota-based domestic violence prevention organization.
