Domestic violence is a nationwide issue. Although it affects nearly one in four women, one in seven men and more than three million children in the United States, its symptoms can be difficult to recognize.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM), but through its HopeLine program, Verizon Wireless works to raise awareness of this very serious issue all year round.
In observation of DVAM, Verizon Wireless recently made a $15,000 donation to the Mississippi Coalition Against Domestic Violence (MCADV). In addition to the platinum level sponsorship of the organization’s fifth annual Purple for Peace event, the donation will provide educational books and fund domestic violence public service announcements.
“Verizon Wireless is proud to support the Mississippi Coalition Against Domestic Violence’s initiative to engage and empower the public to speak out against domestic violence,” said William Edge, Verizon Wireless district sales manager for Mississippi. “We know that for decades, the Mississippi Coalition Against Domestic Violence has made a difference every day through the professional, compassionate and empowering support provided to victims and survivors of domestic abuse in the Jackson area and statewide.”
HopeLine from Verizon Wireless collects no-longer-used mobile phones and turns them into vital links for domestic violence victims and survivors, enabling them to reach emergency or support services in times of crisis, and stay connected with employers, family and friends.
