Fax machines – remember them? No? Well, they were big in the 80’s but since then they’ve been getting smaller. In the days before email went mainstream they were really helpful – transmitting documents quickly and easily all across the world. Now though, most of these documents are sent over email. But despite the email explosion, fax is still useful and necessary from time to time; especially regarding documents that need a signature. The good news is that if you don’t have a fax machine, or are simply on the go, you can send a fax from your smartphone.

There are two ways of doing this – one is through an email fax service such as MyFax where you send and receive faxes from a smartphone or a computer using your email account. These services tend to have free trials so you can try before you buy.

Alternatively, there are a bunch of mobile fax apps out there for iPhone or Android devices – including eFax and iFax. Once installed you can view documents or capture images, add electronic signatures and send faxes to an actual fax machine or to another smartphone. You can also receive faxes displayed on your phone screen.

So even though fax machines used to be big in the 80’s, now they fit in the palm of your hand!
