Initiating home decorating projects or finding the inspiration for updating your abode can be overwhelming.
As design expert Erin Hiemstra, founder and CEO of lifestyle website Apartment34.com, can attest, diving into the digital space can quickly help turn any room into a fabulous living space. Erin has mastered the art of creating the perfect feel-good dwelling, something she says can easily be done from a smartphone or tablet.
“From design blogs to apps that help you do everything from match paint colors to buy a new coffee table from your couch, you can accomplish virtually anything from your phone,” Hiemstra said. Simply put: just turn your mobile device into your style assistant.
“Your mobile device is now the handiest tool for home design,” she said. “From finding design inspiration on Pinterest, to Googling a question while standing in the hardware store aisle, design is no longer relegated to an elite set.”
Nevertheless, Hiemstra recommends taking a step out of the digital space every so often. “There is still value in doing things like actually testing a paint color on the wall,” she said, “or in putting a new pillow cushion against your bedspread to make sure you like it.
Hiemstra is a huge fan of mobile apps to help channel her vision for décor. “I particularly like shopping apps like One Kings Lane, 1stdibs or Pinterest. You want to be able to clearly see ideas and take action on them quickly. Apps like these definitely make that possible.”
