TULSA, Okla. (April 10, 1995)-- Banyan Systems Inc., headquartered in Westboro, Mass., has chosen WilTel to provide WilPak data communications service connectivity to its Pacific Rim operations. Banyan Systems specializes in the manufacture of local-area-network computer software.
WilPak is a public data service utilizing frame and cell relay technology. WilPak accommodates multi-protocol, multi-vendor data environments and provides a single physical interface into the network to support multiple remote locations through the dynamic allocation of capacity. WilTel offers international WilPak service to global destinations from Germany to Hong Kong. WilTel, a wholly owned subsidiary of LDDS Communications, provides Banyan Systems with 64 Kbps connectivity to locations in Hong Kong and Tokyo.
Banyan uses the WilTel Data Concourse for a variety of U.S.-to-Pacific Rim telecommunications purposes ranging from E-mail and file transfer to other office administration applications. "We had difficulty setting up connectivity back to Westboro from the Pacific Rim, and options for routing through a third country were proving very cost prohibitive," said Mark Hildebrand, Banyan Systems manager of information systems. "WilTel came in and offered Banyan a frame relay circuit to Westboro for a price cheaper than I could get routing through a third country. WilTel offered a much faster service for less money."
WilTel international product manager French Scott said, "As an international telecommunications service company, one of our primary goals is to offer Banyan Systems customized, efficient service offerings that will meet its specific telecommunications service needs. Cost-effective service and a dependable 24 hours a day, seven days a week system maintenance guarantee are proud hallmarks of the WilTel commitment to its valued customers."
WilTel offers international WilNet private-line service with Traditional half-circuit, 3C (Complete Circuit Coordination), and End-To-End service types to more than 50 countries worldwide, and was one of the first interexchange carriers to offer direct-dial telecommunications service to Cuba. "Because Banyan Systems received such good service with WilTel's WilNet private-line service domestically and into Australia, we decided to go with WilTel's WilPak data service to the Pacific Rim. WilNet performance has been excellent for going on three years now," added Hildebrand.
WilTel is a full-service telecommunications company that offers domestic and international data, voice and video products to carriers and large business customers. WilTel operates a nationwide digital fiber-optic network for its parent company, LDDS, which is one of the four largest U.S.-based long-distance carriers. The shares of LDDS Communications, Inc., trade on the NASDAQ Stock Market under the symbol LDDS.
