Sitting downstairs in the hotel lobby, John Osorio picked up the phone when he saw a call come in from his then 7-year-old son Jaden.
“What’s up, buddy?” John said, thinking his son was upstairs in the hotel room with his mom.
What he heard next would scare any parent.
It was a New York City Police Officer and he had Jaden at the precinct. Jaden was fine, but panic still rushed through his father.
It’s a scenario that could happen to any parent.
A group of 17 family members and friends had traveled from Florida to New York City for a sightseeing vacation. While in Times Square the family took a group photo then split up into smaller groups. Jaden’s mom, Anna Rhee-Osorio, thought her son was with his father, while his father thought he was with his mother.
You just never know when that service is going to be far more than just cellular phone service. When it’s going to be a matter of your child needing you there.
Everyone went back to the hotel but Jaden. In the meantime, Jaden climbed up on a ledge that looked like a great spot for a photo. When he turned around, he discovered his family was gone. He smartly approached a police officer, who took Jaden to the station and called his father from the young boy’s GizmoPal.
“It’s one of those things that they all kind of warn you about. When you’re in a large group everybody assumes someone else is watching your child,” said Anna. “It would have been a far scarier situation for Jaden had he not had his GizmoPal that day.”
“You just never know when that service is going to be far more than just cellular phone service,” Anna said. “When it’s going to be a matter of your child needing you there.”
The family’s vacation plans for this year haven’t been completed, but one thing is for sure, Jaden’s GizmoPal will be the first thing on their packing list.
