The Systems Technician is responsible for the advanced installation, operation, and maintenance of the regional data network elements, ensuring network integrity and quality.  These networks include, but are not limited to, 1x voice, 3G data, 4G LTE, ALU-5E switch, 7750, SAM, MME, SGW, PGW, OMP, desktop, and laptop PC’s, and peripherals.  Other responsibilities include troubleshooting; upgrading; administering these platforms and multiple vendor systems; maintaining system, element and platform applications; and providing support to a varied user community; updating daily logs with site-specific information; and composing clear, concise reports for system documentation.  The Systems Technician is expected to perform his/her duties with minimum supervision, and participate in cross-functional projects as scheduled.

Must be able to lead and/or facilitate end-to-end troubleshooting and problem resolution in the Verizon Wireless Network. Must have an understanding of GUI platforms which include: 1340 INC, OMEA, One Control, Preside, Netsmart 1500 / 500.  Must possess an in depth knowledge of ALU Lambda Unites / MSPP, Ciena 6500 / CPL / 6110 / 3500 / HDXc, and Fujitsu 4500 / 9500.  Must have a working knowledge of the ALU 1631 DCS and XNG. 

Troubleshoots, upgrades, and administers multiple vendor systems.

Installs, operates, administers, and performs advanced maintenance of the regional data network elements.

Maintains systems, elements, and platform applications.

Updates daily logs with site-specific information.

Composes clear and concise reports for system documentation.

Participates in cross-functional projects as scheduled.



Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science or a related field and 3 years’ experience in the telecommunications industry; or 5 years professional level related Engineering/Technical experience; or an equivalent combination of education and professional level related Engineering/Technical experience. 

Intermediate training in at least 3 of the following areas:  data communications, digital communications, operating systems and applications, telecommunications, computer support, project management, and/or power.

Demonstrate knowledge of power and data networking protocols including TCP/IP, OS, X.25, RIP, OSPF, BGP, ISDN, SS7, other LAN/WAN protocols is required.

Strong programming and computer skills with emphasis on applications are required.
Advanced understanding of SONET theory, OTN, OTNGN, OC48/OC192 UPSR/BSLR systems, DWDM systems, and T1/T3/OC3c/OC12c/OC48c/Ethernet over SONET circuit testing.
Understanding of and experience using various technical support tools such as Element Management Systems, trouble ticketing systems, XNG circuit inventory system and network troubleshooting tools.

Networking background, CCNA, Routers, Switches, I.P v4 and v6 and knowledge of call flows.

Flexible hours and shift work required.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Outlook is required.
