Responsibilities

Verizon Telematics is looking for an experienced attorney to serve as Staff Counsel in its Atlanta or Aliso Viejo headquarters.  The attorney will provide support on major legal initiatives including new product development and feature enhancements, contract negotiations with strategic partners, customer facing, vendor and marketing arrangements, legislative policies impacting the business, and regulatory, security and privacy risk assessments.  The position requires someone with an eye for detail who can adroitly manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.  The Staff Counsel will report to the Verizon Telematics’ General Counsel. 

 Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Draft, review and negotiate commercial arrangements with strategic partners.
  • Participate and counsel clients through all stages of the product lifecycle (design, review, approve, go-to-market and wind down).
  • Advise Verizon Telematics’ leaders on legal matters impacting the business.
  • Provide feedback on proposed legislation and other advocacy initiatives impacting the business.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate any areas of risk.
  • Support process improvements in contracting to enhance the sales process.  
  • Review and advise on requests for proposals.
  • Ensure compliance of products with all laws, regulations and contractual commitments.
  • Refine standard agreements for existing aspects of the business.

Qualifications

Education: JD degree from a top tier law school with strong academic performance.

  • Licenses:  Active and in good standing of at least one state bar.
  • Work Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of recent, relevant, proven legal experience with a major law firm and/or in-house; significant transactional experience; experience in the communications or wireless technology industry is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with and proficiency in location based services and related laws, regulations and industry rules is preferred.
  • Exceptionally strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Proven ability to professionally manage time, prioritize multiple responsibilities, and process a high volume of work in a timely and accurate manner with a high attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to work independently and autonomously, as well as part of a team.
  • Proven ability to spot problems and develop and lead implementation of appropriate solutions.
  • Ability to interact comfortably with all levels of personnel and enforce legal requirements without alienating clients.
  • Proficient computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, MS Office, etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability to handle extremely sensitive and confidential
