Responsibilities

This position is a hybrid RF Design/ System Performance position.  The Principal RF Engineer will serve as a SME on RF Design and Network performance for the Georgia/Alabama region. The engineer will create design standards for the region, as well as work closely with System Performance to optimize network performance and System Performance KPIs.  The position will provide roadmap and guidance to the RF Design team on how to create future-proof designs. This engineer will also work closely with the Area and HQ teams to analyze performance and determine optimal settings/configurations for the region.  This position will also play a key role in determining the best deployment strategy for CRAN, small cells, tower equipment, etc. One of the other main goals of this position will be to focus on maintaining and furthering Network Superiority in network testing (both internal and 3rd party testing).

  • Partnering with System Performance to reduce Lost Calls, Ineffective Attempts, Failed connection attempts, Dropped Connections, RRC setup failures, RRC Drops, Context Setup Failures, and Context Drops
  • Optimizes the network using traditional and non-traditional means to address the Network topology and technology changes
  • Supports the investigation and resolution of customer complaints regarding service by using drive test tools, post processing and mapping tools along with OTA messaging to determine root causes
  • Baseline activities play a key role in optimizing our Network and improving month over month our customer experience. The RF Engineer will be working on many Baseline initiatives as we grow our LTE Network. Collaborates with other Network groups, (e.g., real estate, system performance, construction, etc.). Typically manages multiple projects at a time.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science - Master degree a plus
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in the cellular or telecommunications industry with direct experience in RF Design
  • Demonstrated knowledge in several of the following platforms and/or technologies
  • Small cell design and optimization
  • In – Building design and optimization
  • System Design including: GSM, LTE, CDMA, EVDO
  • Voice cells infrastructure including: Ericsson and Lucent
  • Wireless data service including: LTE, EVDO
  • Proficient in office computer applications: Datapro or equivalent commercial data collection tools, Windcatcher, Real Time Tool, Chicago Web Page, Zite/SSAT, Alerts, Neighbor List Tool, Autotest, Agilent Tool, Dashboard, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, MapInfo, GeoPlan
  • iBwave certification with in building design experience a plus
