The Senior Consultant – Income Tax Accounting is responsible for working with other tax department members to manage the processes and the projects involved in meeting all of Verizon’s income tax accounting responsibilities including ASC 740 tax provision calculations, effective tax rate analyses, deferred tax analysis & reconciliations, FIN 48 Tax Reserve analysis and other responsibilities as determined to meet the goals of the income tax department.  Specific income tax reporting for wireless on actual or forecasted amounts will be necessary to meet the needs of management or other minority shareholders as required.  The position is highly technical and requires a balance of income tax accounting and technical skills as well as highly developed analytical skills.  Strong tax technical skills, strong financial accounting skills, strong analytical skills, strong communication skills and strong organization skills are required. 


  1. Responsible for working with a team of tax professionals in fulfilling income tax accounting obligations including all reporting requirements under ASC 740, quarterly and annual income tax provisions,  and quarterly and annual tax footnote disclosures; responsible for working with the external auditors to ensure proper financial statement reporting on a quarterly basis.  Senior Consultant must also maintain SOX compliance for all income tax accounting processes.  Responsible for meeting all Wireless income tax accounting reporting obligations to all 3rd party minority partners.


  1. Responsible for effective tax rate modeling – actual and forecast.  Senior Consultant will play a highly critical role in effective tax rate planning including the projecting & monitoring of the impact of Wireless taxes upon on Verizon’s Effective Tax Rate.  Several views of the effective tax rate are required on a continual basis within Wireless’ dynamic fast-paced ever-changing environment.  Responsible for analyzing and determining all effective tax rate implications and issues for both Wireless and Verizon Communications.  Responsible for analyzing, reporting, and explaining effective tax rates to financial planning group for budgeting and forecasting purposes.


  1. Responsible for managing the ongoing tax reporting using OneSource Tax Provision including all deferred tax asset and liability requirements by type of item, entity, and filing jurisdiction.  This role will involve extensive communication and coordination with the Verizon State Tax Accounting group as amounts are needed for both separate company wireless reporting and Verizon unitary reporting.  Ongoing maintenance and updates for legal entity restructuring will also be required.


  1. Responsible for drawing conclusions regarding various aspects of FIN 48 - Accounting for Uncertainties in Income Taxes,  including review of tax position memos and FIN 48 requirements; exercising professional judgment regarding potential exposure items is necessary.  



  1. Responsible for managing miscellaneous income tax accounting projects as requested both internally within the VZ tax department and externally.


  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, related field or equivalent experience required
  • CPA or Masters in Taxation highly desired
  • 6+ years tax experience with an emphasis on ASC 740 and FIN 48 is required
  • Experience in interpreting and implementing the concepts of the FASB’s standards for Income Tax Accounting under ASC 740 and analyzing & reporting uncertain tax positions under FIN 48 required
  • Extensive Experience in both Partnership and Corporate Federal and State Income Taxation Compliance required
  • Demonstration of ability to manage the implementation and on-going maintenance of income tax accounting provision software packages in a highly complex legal entity organizational environment required
  • Proven history of experience in successfully managing multiple projects
  • Employee must be highly motivated and have the ability to work with little to no supervision
  • Experience in Income Tax in Big 4 public accounting firms and Fortune 500 corporate tax departments is highly desired
