The Verizon team is looking for an individual with a passion for cutting edge technology and must have a willingness to learn and adapt in a very dynamic environment. This individual should have a software systems engineer background with experience in LBS services and 3GPP e911 technology. This individual must have a willingness to learn and adapt in a very dynamic environment. The Device Technology team is responsible to define and prioritize the next generation technologies and in turn document the requirements and test plans needed to introduce functionality on devices. The individual reports to a manager and interfaces extensively with many functions within and outside the business to perform the role.

 30% - Technology Investigation and Evaluation

  • Investigate and define new capabilities, features and operations.
  • Work with internal and external partners to understand the proper implementation of the new technologies.
  • Work with vendors who can offer solutions to evaluate performance
  • Collect data from lab, trials and FOAs to validate new technology
  • Support the investigation, troubleshooting and resolution of handset/terminal issues.
  • Evaluate architecture implementation as to efficiency, stability, and upgradability.

 30% - Device Requirements Development

  • Develop device requirements aligning with marketing requirements, network implementation, and appropriate standards specifications.
  • Evaluate device vendor’s compliance to VZW device requirements.

 20% - Test Case Development

  • Develop Acceptance Test plans to certify requirements.
  • Work with test equipment vendors to develop and validate new test platforms or scripts to execute the newly introduced test cases.
  • Setup the lab test equipment and execute tests according with new requirements/specifications.
  • Proactively look for opportunities to improve and update test plans.

 20% - Vendor Management

  • Interface with and drive device vendors’ schedules and solutions for trials and FOAs.
  • Interface with and drive test equipment vendors’ schedules and solutions for lab test availability and accuracy.



Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical/Electronics/Computer Engineering preferred; Master’s is a plus.


  • 4 years of experience in wireless telecommunication technologies and location based technologies.
  • 3+ years with LTE, UMTS, GSM, CDMA
  • 2+ years with E911, SUPL, OTDOA, LBS
  • Software systems engineer background with:
    • 2+ years of experience with Java, Linux and development languages’ (C, C++, assembly) data structures and programming.
    • 2+ years of experience with HLOS such as Android, Blackberry, Windows, Apple.
  • Working knowledge on wireless layer2, layer 3 and application layer protocol technologies (RRC, NAS, SIP, IMS, IPv4, IPv6, IPSEC) on wireless devices.
  • 2+ years of experience writing technical documentation, such as test plans/requirements/specifications.
  • 2+ years of experience in wireless device operation and testing, either in the field or lab environments.
  • Experience with handset manufacturers and/or chipset vendors.
  • Hands on experience with test equipment vendors, lab platform integration, protocol analyzer, system simulators and network emulators a plus.
