This highly visible position will be responsible for supporting VoLTE end to end thru ALU/NSN IMS Cores which includes First Office Application, rollout, and continued maintenance and support for VoLTE and Fios Digital Voice. The applicant will be charged with ensuring the latest wireless network is tested and deployed across the nation to align with VZW critical business needs. Cross team/functional training, planning, validation of hardware, software, and configuration encompassing multiple vendors in order to ensure network superiority and stability for customers.

IMS VoLTE Engineer will work cross functionally with multiple groups and will be responsible for providing technical leadership and training with regard to VoLTE with IMS Core and call flow during planning, staging, first office application, commercial deployment, and continued maintenance/support to teams that include Area/Regional Operations, Network Implementation, Product Development, HQ/Area Network Planning, National Network Operations, and other Maintenance Engineering groups in order to fulfill complex business requirements. This will require great individual flexibility in order to ensure all other Maintenance Engineering teams are kept up to speed on VoLTE changes while being the “one voice” of the organization.

IMS VoLTE Engineer will prime planning, designing, equipment selection, staging, testing, and integration of new system hardware and software. Demonstrate the ability to apply the knowledge gained through formal and informal training to provide business decisions that improve the performance or operability of the system as well as VZW direction with regard to the VoLTE end to end network connecting to ALU/NSN IMS Cores.

IMS VoLTE Engineer will create and maintain functional and technical requirements, analyze hardware/software features and enhancements, understand and troubleshoot system architectures, system operations, end-to-end designs and device-system interactions.

IMS VoLTE Engineer will provide direct oversight for outage resolution and provide the point of escalation and support to NRB/NOCC/Customer Service/regional operations/National Operations and performance teams when outages occur. They will identify, collect, and evaluate data relating to system problems that impact user performance and efficiency, analyze system failures and develop short- and long-term resolutions. Engineer will be responsible for vendor escalation to ensure minimum outage duration. The Engineer will need to be able to work with multiple vendors across multiple platforms to achieve system stability. In the event that executive leadership needs to be involved Maintenance Engineering management will be brought in as a point of further escalation.

The IMS VoLTE Engineer will partner with various HQ departments in technology trials, interoperability tests, run first office applications, and participate in vendor evaluations. IMS VoLTE Engineer will pro actively provide solutions to improve network systems and eliminate problems through ongoing system evaluation.

Overnight work and travel will be required.

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or equivalent technical discipline is required
  • 6+ years experience in CDMA/LTE telecommunications is required
  • 6+ years of experience in trouble-shooting customer related issues and providing support to operations personnel.
  • 3+ years of expertise in IP addressing, routing and the OSI 7-layer protocol.
  • Working knowledge of Diameter Protocol/Stack
  • Working knowledge of SIP protocol
  • Knowledge of IMS Core network elements
  • 3+ years of vendor management experience
  • Ability to understand/troubleshoot call flow across end to end infrastructure. (radio access, transport, and core data networks)
  • Working knowledge of UNIX/Linux OS
  • Strong oral and written communication abilities
  • Ability to work with cross functional teams
