Responsibilities

This highly visible position will be responsible for NSN IMS Core which includes First Office Application, rollout, and continued maintenance. The Engineer will be charged with ensuring the latest wireless network is tested and deployed across the nation to align with VZW critical business needs. Cross team/functional training, planning, validation of hardware, software, and configuration encompassing multiple vendors in order to ensure network superiority and stability for customers.

NSN IMS Core Engineer will work cross functionally with multiple groups and will be responsible for providing technical leadership and training with regard to the NSN IMS Core system and call flow during planning, staging, first office application, commercial deployment, and continued maintenance to teams that include Area/Regional Operations, Network Implementation, Product Development, HQ/Area Network Planning, National Network Operations, and other Maintenance Engineering groups in order to fulfill complex business requirements. This will require great individual flexibility in order to ensure all other Maintenance Engineering teams are kept up to speed on NSN Core changes while being the “one voice” of the organization.

NSN IMS Core Engineer will prime planning, designing, equipment selection, staging, testing, and integration of new system hardware and software. Demonstrate the ability to apply the knowledge gained through formal and informal training to provide business decisions that improve the performance or operability of the system as well as VZW direction with regard to the LTE network connecting to NSN IMS Network.

NSN IMS Core Engineer will provide direct oversight for outage resolution and provide the point of escalation and support to NRB/NOCC/Customer Service/regional operations/National Operations and performance teams when outages occur. They will identify, collect, and evaluate data relating to system problems that impact user performance and efficiency, analyze system failures and develop short- and long-term resolutions. Engineer will be responsible for vendor escalation to ensure minimum outage duration. The Engineer will need to be able to work with multiple vendors across multiple platforms to achieve system stability. In the event that executive leadership needs to be involved Maintenance Engineering management will be brought in as a point of further escalation.

The NSN IMS Core Engineer will partner with various HQ departments in technology trials, interoperability tests, run first office applications, and participate in vendor evaluations. NSN IMS Core Engineer will pro actively provide solutions to improve network systems and eliminate problems through ongoing system evaluation.

Overnight work and travel will be required



Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or equivalent technical discipline is required
  • 5+ years of experience in troubleshooting customer related issues and providing support to operations personnel.
  • 5+ years of expertise in IP addressing, routing and the OSI 7-layer protocol.
  • 3+ years of vendor management experience
  • Ability to understand/troubleshoot call flow across end to end infrastructure. (radio access, transport, and core data networks)
  • Knowledge of IMS Core network elements
  • Working knowledge of UNIX/Linux OS
  • Working knowledge of Diameter Protocol/Stack
  • Strong oral and written communication with ability to work with cross functional teams
  • Ability to gather data, to compile information, and prepare reports
  • Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals
  • Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities
  • Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management
  • Program planning and implementation skills
  • Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures
  • Ability to design and implement systems necessary to collect, to maintain, and analyze data
