Responsibilities

The Small Cell RF Engineer contributes to the RF Design of the regional wireless network including:

  • Create Inbuilding and Small Cell Polygons/Search areas, RFP issuance, candidate assessment, and approvals.
  • Redesigning mature network areas to minimize capacity constraints and improve SINR while working with other areas of network to ensure performance fixes/initiatives are in place.
  • Partnering with System Performance to reduce Lost Calls, Ineffective Attempts, Failed connection attempts, Dropped Connections, RRC setup failures, RRC Drops, Context Setup Failures, and Context Drops
  • Using internal tools to process regulatory compliance
  • Assist the regional team in the build program using Network Flow and propagation design with Geoplan/Atoll and ibwave
  • Performing Small Cell Design design including antenna selection and placement, utilizing knowledge of GSM, LTE, CDMA 1x, EVDO and microwave to contribute in network design are key responsibilities.
  • Perform analysis of CW tests to select optimal candidates for small cell locations such that the small cells complement the macro network.
  • Run isolation factor CDFs and optimize areas using tight coordination techniques
  • Review and approve Large venue designs like stadiums, arenas etc and work hand in hand with market system performance engineers in optimization of the venue.
  • Supports the investigation and resolution of customer complaints regarding service by using drive test tools, post processing and mapping tools along with OTA messaging to determine root causes
  • Works on new cell sites, making sure site is properly integrated into network and optimized for peak performance
  • Baseline activities play a key role in optimizing our Network and improving month over month our customer experience. The RF Engineer will be working on many Baseline initiatives as we grow our LTE Network. Collaborates with other Network groups, (e.g., real estate, system performance, construction, etc.). Typically manages multiple projects at a time.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science - Master degree a plus
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in the cellular or telecommunications industry with direct experience in RF Design
  • Demonstrated knowledge in several of the following platforms and/or technologies
  • System Design including: GSM, LTE, CDMA, EVDO
  • Voice cells infrastructure including: Lucent and Motorola
  • Wireless data service including: LTE, CDMA
  • Proficient in office computer applications: Datapro or equivalent commercial data collection tools, Windcatcher, Real Time Tool, Chicago Web Page, Zite/SSAT, Alerts, Neighbor List Tool, Autotest, Agilent Tool, Dashboard, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, MapInfo, GeoPlan
  • iBwave certification with in building design/small cell experience a plus
