Payroll Processing & Time Reporting Support

Primary Responsibility

The primary responsibility of this position is to identify and drive improvement opportunities across Global Payroll processing, Time Reporting collection and processing. Value is provided to the enterprise by constantly improving the processes associated with the delivery of Global Payroll services to provide timely, accurate information and to ultimately safeguard Verizon assets. Help ensure that incoming and outgoing transaction processes are controlled, effective and efficient. Find innovative ways to manage Global Payroll’s complex set of transactions. Make processes more efficient and scalable, and work to ensure the highest level of quality of our operations and minimize operational risk. Externally, collaborate with our partners and stakeholders, benchmark and track industry standards and internally, collaborate across the Finance Operations and Global Payroll teams.


Job Scope

  • Provide technical subject matter expertise to the Processing and Time Reporting Support team as well as Global Payroll Operations, providing guidance and support to decision makers on strategy, policy and technical issues based on significant quantitative and qualitative analysis. Drive standardization across Verizon as related to pay and or time processing.
  • Provide processing performance reporting and analysis to Senior Management, which includes tracking and monitoring all accuracy and timeliness SLA’s. Assist Senior Management in developing appropriate strategies for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the Global Payroll Processes and infrastructure.
  • Responsible for all processing SLA’s for both Payroll and Time and Labor and report those metrics accordingly to upper management.
  • Identify and drive improvement opportunities for their work stream and work closely with either the internal team or service providers (as applicable) to ensure improvement opportunities are implemented.
  • Assist in assessing the services delivered by the service providers (as applicable) and validating that performance metrics established by service level agreements are met as applicable.
  • Develop and maintain procedures and policies for their assigned work stream or function(s).
  • Responsible for ensuring all payroll processing analysts are appropriately trained, maintain responsibility for any technical issue escalations from internal Payroll employees and responds to customer inquiries in the capacity as a subject matter expert (Level 3), ensuring issue and error resolution.
  • Undertake complex projects and provides guidance on project related issues as needed. Leads training and skills development initiatives as a Subject Matter Expert.
  • Maximize the effectiveness and accuracy of existing systems using existing technology, research and apply new functionality or upgrades as provided.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies and controls (e.g., Security, Disaster Recovery, Sarbanes Oxley and local entity or country compliance).
  • Stay current on industry standards by engaging in networking and benchmarking. Responsible for creating business cases and implementation plans related to new Payroll or Time related products and ensuring we bring these products to market as fast as possible.
  • Responsible for any changes to the ESPx (scheduler) process due to new applications being created or holiday processing days and ensuring that the scheduler is performing to maximum capacity for both Payroll and Time and Labor.
  • Serve as the liaison to the daily processing team and ensure all new projects/applications are be accounted for.
  • Maintain certification or number of training hours per year in technical area they are responsible for supporting.



Desired Experience

  • Generally require BA/BS in Computer Science, IT, Finance or equivalent work experience.
  • Professional certification or experience preferred in technical areas related to Pay and or Time processing, examples; PeopleSoft Global Payroll, Time Reporting Applications, Time Feeders, Vendor solutions in these disciplines.
  • 3+ years of direct  payroll processing experience, troubleshooting, implementation (prefer Global experience including domestic and international)
  • Strong investigation/researching skills  
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at once, juggle heavy workload
  • Working knowledge of Verizon vendor management policies and procedures
  • Advanced knowledge of report query and design. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially in Excel and PowerPoint; strong written and oral communications skills,
  • Excellent presentation skills, ability to drive visions of technology to upper management.
  • Demonstrated experience in continuous improvement initiatives, root cause analysis and project management.
  • Experience in Payroll Technology field
