As a member of the Invoice Validation team, the Lead Analyst must be able to manage multiple tasks, tools, and systems simultaneously. Meeting organizational goals depends on this person’s ability to organize, create, communicate, and facilitate activities that allow the company to deliver on its commitments. This work is not routine, and requires the Analyst to use significant discretion and judgment to interpret and apply legal guidance and FCC / Regulatory orders to support material disputes that are filed monthly. These disputes have a material financial impact to Verizon from a margin and cash flow perspective, as the majority of these disputes are deducted and not paid to the vendors.

The purpose of this position is to reflect an advanced level of proficiency and interpretation in the audit and analysis of Right-of-Way (ROW)/Pole Rental invoices, account management and affiliate invoice processing, and management of Internal Telecom administration functions. The Consultant will have a lead role in Contract Compliance and Interpretation, and as a business unit signoff on new or extended contracts.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Analyzing, developing, and executing detailed audits and analyses involving considerable complexity for Verizon and its subsidiaries.
  • Notifying and initiating negotiations with Verizon’s vendors and with providing the explanation and supporting documentation for filed claims. This may involve leading consultation with Legal, Regulatory, Network Engineering, and Carrier Management as necessary to support and resolve open claims.
  • Participating in developing and mentoring the Band 8 & 7T employees within the Invoice Validation Organization.
  • Updating, maintaining, and monitoring of applicable Verizon financial systems.
  • The performance and enhancement of routine audits on invoices received from vendors and file claims, performance and identification of ad hoc audits (e.g. those that require contract / tariff interpretation and an advanced level of discretion) on invoices received from vendors, analyze, and use discretion and judgment to resolve claims with vendors (acting as an agent for Verizon); and refine/enhance existing audits & create new audits by determining business requirements.


Required Skills and Experience
• BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or equivalent work experience
• 5+ years of Professional Experience
• Experience in the preparation of General Ledgers
• Knowledge of FASB and SEC requirements, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, tax reporting and accounting practices
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially in Excel
• Attention to detail
• Strong written and oral communications skills
• Advanced understanding of report query and design
• Working knowledge of accounting systems and applications including SAP, PeopleSoft, Essbase, Hyperion Financial Management, and/or Blackline

Preferred Skills and Experience
• Master's in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, or equivalent
• Professional certification (e.g. CPA, CMA)
• Experience in continuous improvement initiatives, root cause analysis and project management
• Strong IT technical knowledge including billing systems experience
• Experience in contract / tariff interpretation and negotiation preferred, but not required
• Experience in the telecommunications industry preferred, but not required
• Programming experience in languages such as SQL or Hyperion or advanced MS Access skills preferred, but not required
